“But where is the patriarchy that we don’t see? Obviously: it is in the archaic enclaves, often Islamic, of our Western societies.” This is how Luca Ricolfi expressed himself in the book “What Remains of Feminism,” warning, with the publication of the related chart, that a foreign woman belonging to Islamic communities is at 4 times greater risk than Italian women for crimes such as gang rape, 8 times greater for facial disfigurement, 5 times greater for femicide, and 15 times greater for forced marriage.

Italia Oggi published an analysis regarding female genital mutilation and the indifferent silence towards this barbaric practice justified with the excuse of respecting other cultures. According to a study conducted by the University of Milano-Bicocca and the University of Bologna, there are about 88,500 women in Italy who have undergone female genital mutilation. An increase of 1% compared to estimates published in 2019.
People look the other way. When we often read on social media “where are the feminists?” the most comprehensive answer that comes to mind is that of Pascal Bruckner in his book “An Almost Perfect Culprit.” The fact is – says Bruckner – that “progressive” feminism has become a “process” feminism that blames all Western males. Islamic males, on the other hand, are forgiven regardless to avoid accusations of Islamophobia and to remain in the ambiguous field of defending multiculturalism.
THE IRANIAN TWINS
Let’s take the Venice Film Festival: we all read about the Naza film, which documents the massacre of civilians in Gaza. Yet there was another important film, about the condition of Iranian women, which went quite unnoticed. Not worthy, therefore, beyond artistic quality, of becoming an “event.” It is titled Moragheb (Falling House) by Iranian director Mohsen Gharaie. “Today’s Iran is like a house being demolished,” Avvenire wrote, “whose foundations are giving way under the weight of lack of freedom and the push of new generations, especially women.”

Women like the twins Taraneh and Romina Rahimi, the first facing the risk of hanging and the second 25 years in prison, guilty of having participated in the January protests brutally suppressed by the Iranian regime. The UN agency for women – noted Giulio Meotti in Il Foglio – found time to congratulate Beyoncé and Zendaya but not to call for mobilizations for the Rahimi twins. We are resigned, just as the left is resigned to anti-Western Palestinianism, to the point that secretary Elly Schlein declared that the first thing she will do as prime minister will be to recognize the State of Palestine, while some time ago she said that if the PD were in government, Trump would not be considered an ally.
ACTRESS ATTACKED
Two days ago there was an attack on Bengali actress Azmeri Haque Badhon while she was walking in a park in Mestre with her family. Badhon is in the cast of a film presented in Venice – “The Reluctant Bride” – and the basis of the attack would be, according to the reconstruction, her position regarding the July-August 2024 uprising in Bangladesh, the mobilization that led to the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We are talking about Mestre, where Bengalis loudly demand a mosque and where the imam speaks of women as one of the “vices” leading the West to destruction. This case too, the attack on an actress in Venice with a controversial film, went almost unnoticed. And this too is a symptom of a media agenda that wants to silence the increasingly concrete risks of “submission.”
