The language currently used by institutions is discriminatory against women. This is the conviction of Valeria Valente, senator of the Democratic Party, who has actively intervened on the issue by presenting a new bill. This establishes that public administrations, in administrative acts, correspondence, and in the naming of positions, political and administrative functions, must refer to both women and men.
In particular, the bill presented to the Senate states, “the obligation is introduced to use the word ‘person’ instead of the extensive considered neutral ‘man’ and to agree the functional, academic, professional, institutional, and honorary title with the sex of the person to whom it is attributed, therefore also in the feminine form.” The text also provides for changes to the civil and civil procedure codes and the penal code, using “assassination” instead of “murder”.
