Case Ceuta and Europe’s migration policies at the center of the debate on È Sempre Cartabianca, an in-depth program hosted by Bianca Berlinguer every Tuesday prime time on Rete 4. The protagonists are journalist Andrea Scanzi, former mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno, and Elisabetta Piccolotti, deputy of Alliance Greens and Left (AVS) and wife of Nicola Fratoianni.
According to the latest Frontex data, in the first seven months of 2026 irregular crossings of the Union’s external borders decreased by 37%. In Italy, landings are down by 54.8%, while the geography of departures is also changing: Libya remains the main route and Algeria has surpassed Tunisia. Piccolotti, addressing Alemanno, does not miss the chance to attack the government: “In this country the immigration law, the Bossi Fini, was made by you. And these are the results of your law, because the truth is that in the last 25 years, at the Ministry of the Interior for 17 years there have been right-wing ministers.”

Alemanno asks ironically: “Are they all right-wing for you?”. Piccolotti confirms: “Yes, 13 right-wing and 4 technocrats who implemented right-wing policies. These are the results of your useless propaganda against immigrants, which serves to get votes, but then you never solve a problem. We have the longest-lasting government in the history of the Republic, right? An extremist right-wing government that had the money to remove the ghettos and, guess what, the ghettos remain there, but other works have been done.”

Alemanno then contests: “Did you remove them?”. Piccolotti, however, goes straight: “Without migrants in those conditions you don’t know how to run your electoral propaganda. The truth is they are useful to you, because they are needed to be exploited and to lower the cost of labor and irregularity is needed by you to keep profiting from it. Otherwise you would have done an amnesty, you would have built villages, you would have given those people the chance to emancipate.” At that point, Andrea Scanzi intervenes, who, with few words, shuts down the AVS deputy: “The center-left should learn from these systematic blows it takes in Italy, Europe, and the world.”
