Schlein beyond ridiculous on Mps and banks: "Why we are different from the right" | Libero Quotidiano.it

After having monitored Mps for decades (and not noticing the catastrophic management that led the institution to a de facto default), the left is scandalized by the alleged “interference” of the government. The interview of Elly Schlein in Milano Finanza is in this sense as enlightening as it is grotesque.

While the financial (and perhaps legal) battle between Montepaschi CEO Lovaglio and Intesa Sanpaolo is underway, the last stage of a banking risiko destined to involve not only Italy, the secretary of the Democratic Party clarifies: “Unlike the right, we think the government should not intervene heavy-handedly. Let the market decide.” A particularly bizarre neoliberal turn: perhaps the Democrats fear not getting a chance to play?

Certainly, Elly takes the banking opportunity to attack the government on all fronts. “The country is no stronger than before, but more fragile,” she contests after Meloni’s words to the New York Times. “Growth is zero despite the Pnrr, Italy must start growing again. Three things are urgently needed that this government, despite the large majority, has failed to do: reduce energy costs, increase incomes, and restart investments,” she adds.

On the economic recovery, Schlein points to as a priority “a strategic plan for renewables that reduces uncertainties and waiting times,” along with the immediate incentives requested by Confindustria and a strategy shared with the Regions. The PD leader also focuses on purchasing power: “The absolute poverty rate has hit a record 9.8% of families, millions of people struggle to make ends meet and pay for the rising cost of living and now also the fuel price increase which affects all food items.”

Mps, Lovaglio’s 70 billion plan: double takeover bid to challenge Intesa

Forget the Odyssey. The real epic battle of the summer is the banking risiko. They say the tough ones are…

On the economic plan, Schlein states: “Our growth strategy is based on three fundamental points.” For Schlein, these are reducing energy costs and restarting investments, increasing incomes with the minimum wage and the fight against job insecurity. “Third point: to improve people’s quality of life we want to defend schools and public healthcare from cuts and reduce waiting lists.” Regarding savings, she argues that “a great mobilization of national savings is needed, which is still stuck on current accounts for 1,700 billion,” creating tools to channel part of it towards “innovation in SMEs which are the heart of our economy.”

Then there is the more strictly political issue: “We are working” to be more determined than the current majority and “we will no longer give the center-right the gift of presenting ourselves divided in the elections,” assures Elly. “The Progressive Alliance already governs many regions and municipalities and governs well, without ruptures. It can still expand, but not shrink. From September we will work to refine the program which does not start from scratch but from many unitary proposals and then we will agree on the rest. But first of all comes the battle in Parliament against an electoral law that anticipates the premiership and offers an abnormal majority bonus.”
