The entrepreneur and former journalist-publisher Valter Lavitola has been arrested and taken to prison because he is accused of being the mastermind behind the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci, which took place last October in Pomezia near Rome. The precautionary measure was issued by the Rome judge in the context of the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office – coordinated by prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi – in which the mafia method is also contested. The arrest was carried out by the investigative unit of the Carabinieri. According to the accusation, Lavitola is suspected “of having conceived the criminal plan – explains a note released by the Carabinieri -, giving Gomes the mandate to identify the subjects capable of obtaining the explosive and carrying out the demonstrative attack in front of the journalist’s villa.” The investigators recall that the same entrepreneur would have “personally participated, together with the Cameroonian citizen (currently a fugitive ed) in a first exploratory inspection in Pomezia, September 15 of last year.”

Gomes, for his part, “recruited and trained the material executors, the gang of four people of Campanian origin and, besides taking part in the inspection, would have coordinated and participated in a second reconnaissance on the Lazio coast on October 10, 2025, providing the commando with the father-in-law’s car. The restrictive measures are based on a solid and consistent accusatory framework.” The investigative findings “derive from the cross-analysis of telephone and telematic records of the cells serving the attack area, from the tracking of vehicles involved in the preparatory phases and from the forensic examination of the mobile phones used by the suspects, which disproved attempts to pre-construct defensive alibis,” conclude the Carabinieri.
