After the No Tav assault in Val di Susa and the clashes at the demonstration for Abderrahim Fakir in Bologna, Carlo Calenda, leader of Azione, analyzes the responses of the government and opposition, saying he finds their opposite attitudes “serious.” On one side, “the politicization, and therefore representing the left as if it coincided with the No Tav antagonists” and “collateralism: thinking that compromises can be reached with the antagonists and the violent, such as giving space in the marches on April 25 or funding associations close to them,” he said in an interview with Il Foglio. Then he added: “The situation is worsening, you cannot pretend nothing is happening or think you can reason with the antagonist forces.”
Speaking specifically about the center-left, the leader of Azione also emphasized: “I don’t think Elly Schlein supports the No Tav, but I think there are areas of contiguity, for example between Avs and the extreme part of the pro Pal, where indeed nothing is done or it is thought that an agreement can be reached. A very serious mistake that the Pci did not make.” And again: “When you are faced with the presence of No Tav or Pro Pal factions infiltrated by criminals, you have to isolate them. It is time to be very tough, as the Pci was.” According to him, the Democrats today would not be able to do this because “the Pci had its own organization and seriousness that the Pd has lost. It has become cliquey, or at least Schlein’s Pd is.”
Schlein and the interview, “you know it brings bad luck?”: buzz, a sensational precedent
Elly Schlein is evidently not a superstitious person. Otherwise, she would never have chosen Il Foglio to launch…
Regarding the Pd secretary’s openness towards her, he said: “‘Ndo cojo cojo,’ as they say in Rome. Funny, like: anyone is fine. But the problem is what you propose. And it is clear that Azione cannot be with the M5s: we share nothing. Schlein’s only idea is ‘everyone against Meloni,’ not ‘how we want to govern Italy’.” On the migrant issue, for example, Calenda is clear: “Simple measures are needed. Today, an irregular immigrant who commits a crime is given a notice to leave, and often that immigrant commits another crime. Repatriation centers are needed in all regions: the immigrant who commits a crime, according to EU regulations, can stay in a center for up to 18 months. First, voluntary repatriation is offered, then, if not accepted, forced repatriation proceeds. But only now is movement starting, slowly. Meanwhile, the government acts on the imputability of fourteen-year-olds, instead of banning social media under 15, as in France. We have a bipartisan proposal filed, but Meloni is paralyzed on everything.”

Finally, harsh also on Roberto Vannacci and his Futuro Nazionale: “I believe there is an anti-democratic fascistoid component that Vannacci represents, no longer even hidden – he said alluding to the double-headed axe pendant worn by the general, an ancient symbol of Ordine Nuovo -. I hear some Forza Italia members say: we’ll see. See what, faced with a fascist heterodirected by the Russians?”.
