A demonstration that degenerated into violence and very violent clashes. But the tensions also directly concern Lepore, now under police protection. And they are growing on the eve of Sunday, August 2, the day when a second march will take place. And the risk of new clashes is very high.

In Pilastro, on via Svevo, meanwhile, a banner has appeared: “The State kills. Truth and justice for Fakir.” In the neighborhood, Fakir’s death remains an open wound. “What happened is terrible. I knew Fakir. We often crossed paths around here. He used to eat at Caritas. You could see from a mile away that he was a suffering person. He had a lost look, but he was not bad. We all made some mistakes in this story. It shouldn’t have ended like this,” says Ettore De Luca.

Meanwhile, the judicial consequences of the July 20 clashes are unfolding: twelve young people from social centers are under investigation after a day that ended with sixty injured officers. Now the focus is on the new gathering in the square, which coincides with the commemorations of the August 2, 1980 station massacre.
Potere al Popolo has announced a separate section of the march dedicated to Fakir. Lepore tries to get ahead of the disaster of the previous demonstration: “We have always managed everything democratically, not with violence. I believe it will be an important and peaceful march.” The mayor also returns to the threats he has received: “I have been threatened through social media and other means for two years. I am not afraid for myself, but I am worried about democracy in our country.”
