The Fratelli d’Italia council group in Bologna harshly criticizes mayor Matteo Lepore for the decision to award the Turrita d’Oro to New York mayor Zohran Mamdani. “Mayor Lepore’s choice to award the Turrita d’Oro to New York mayor Zohran Mamdani is incomprehensible. It is unclear what ties there could be between the overseas mayor and our Bologna.” FdI highlights the inconsistency of the choice: while a foreign mayor is being honored, the left-wing majority had, a few days earlier, rejected Fratelli d’Italia’s proposal to award the Nettuno d’Oro to Kimi Antonelli, a young Bolognese driver who is bringing honor to the city and Italy in motorsport.”

Lepore continues to confer honors on people who have little or nothing to do with or have donated to our City, while his majority, a few days ago, denied Fratelli d’Italia’s proposal to confer the Nettuno d’Oro on Kimi Antonelli. A young fellow citizen of ours who is bringing Italy and Bologna to prominence in the world of sport.”
The FdI note concludes: “Probably for the left governing Bologna, it matters more to be socialist and Muslim, like Mamdani, rather than being a Bolognese champion.” FdI also raises procedural doubts: “We ask, and we ask the mayor exactly, what the Turrita d’Oro is. Given that it is an honor abolished in 2018 and no longer contemplated in the municipal regulations on the matter.”
