The northern members of the Lega are moving: thus the Committee for the Federal Congress is born, with the aim of obtaining the convocation of the congress of the Lega Nord for the Independence of Padania, which has not been held for nine years. As reported by Sky Tg24, the committee would like to ask the commissioner Igor Iezzi, a figure close to the leader Matteo Salvini, to respect the procedures provided by the statute and to convene the congress. Some of the most important members of the Carroccio, from Massimiliano Romeo to Attilio Fontana up to Massimiliano Fedriga, Luca Zaia, and Riccardo Molinari, would fall within the northern area.
Formally, the old Lega Nord founded by Umberto Bossi still exists. Simply, much of the Lega leadership has merged into the Lega per Salvini Premier, the formation of the current deputy prime minister. Now, however, that party set aside, frozen, could become one of the protagonists of the political scene again. A consequence, probably, of the growing number of requests, especially in Lombardy, for greater attention to the demands of the North. In recent days, both Governor Fontana and Senate group leader Romeo have asked for a solution before the Pontida appointment.

Fontana, having also learned the news of the birth of the committee for the convocation of the federal congress, was keen to clarify that “it has nothing to do with the discussion we are carrying forward with Salvini.” Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation conference of the Monza Formula 1 GP, he then added: “When will I meet Salvini? We are trying to align our schedules. Sunday, meanwhile, we hope to celebrate the Grand Prix together.”

At the center of the debate, moreover, was also Salvini’s leadership: if someone has hypothesized a step aside by him, a possibility not even considered by the Carroccio secretary, someone else instead sided with him unconditionally. The solution, according to the Minister of Transport, is to open up to the possibility of greater sharing of responsibilities. Hence the decision to convene a meeting on September 8 and 9 in Rome to discuss the issues dear to the Lega and the political future of the party.
