Giorgia Meloni commented on the new Security bill. “Yesterday the Government approved a new security bill and the message we want to reiterate is simple and clear, the State stands with those who respect the rules, not with those who trample them – explained the Prime Minister in a video posted on X -. Over the years we have tackled juvenile crime with courageous laws, from pre-trial detention in prison even for minors who use weapons to severe measures against the use of knives among the youngest. Now we add another piece to counter those group violence phenomena that are increasingly involving minors, such as what happened a few days ago at the Colosseum where groups of youths attacked police patrols and caused serious disturbances”.
“These are phenomena that we want to crush, which is why with the new rules we introduce common-sense measures: if you have a criminal record and decide to organize in a group to commit acts of violence, the police chief can forbid you from being with the people you commit crimes with; if you violate that ban, imprisonment is foreseen – continued the FdI leader -, if you participate in group damage you risk up to five years in prison with the possibility of arrest even in flagrante and then those who have behaved aggressively in nightlife areas can be identified and detained for up to 12 hours to prevent them from causing further problems, a tool that has already proven effective against violent protesters. Then there is a novelty concerning a topic we care about deeply. So far in Italy we have witnessed a paradox that offends the sense of justice, honest citizens condemned to compensate even with very high sums with the risk of losing the fruit of a lifetime of work, criminals who tried to rob them because they defended themselves and their families”.

And again: “With this provision we put an end to this injustice, those who suffer damage while committing a crime will no longer be able to claim compensation in civil court, regardless of any criminal responsibility of those who defended themselves from an assault, theft or robbery. Our goal remains the same, to protect the rights of honest citizens and not the claims of criminals. Security is and will continue to be a priority of this Government, we promised this to the citizens, and we continue to keep that commitment day after day”.
