Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stepped in to challenge the opposition: “This afternoon the amendment, proposed by Brothers of Italy and shared by the majority parties, to introduce preferences in the electoral law, as many, including among the opposition, have requested, will be voted on. At this point, I believe a truth operation is necessary, to understand whether those parties that have long called for citizens to be able to choose their own parliamentarians do so out of conviction or just to make fun of Italians. There is only one way to find out: that the amendment be voted on by open ballot and not by secret vote.”
“Giorgia Meloni’s statement is worried and consequent” to the request for a secret vote on the amendments to the electoral law, replies Giuseppe Conte. “Beyond the routine statements of the majority parties, she obviously fears not having the votes,” concludes sarcastically the president of the Five Star Movement.

Speaking with journalists in the Transatlantic, Lollobrigida assures he does not fear the secret vote but believes that “asking for it means not being accountable to the citizens. I don’t know what will happen in the Chamber but our indication has been clear. Prime Minister Meloni was right to say clearly that she wants preferences, because Italians must know that we are transparent.”
