A gaffe like the one from the left on the new taxation of the Tfr – effective from January 1, 2027 – hasn’t been seen for a long time. This is why, following the words of Giorgia Meloni on Facebook, Fratelli d’Italia also wanted to dedicate a post to the false accusations launched by the Pd parliamentarians Alessia Morani and Brando Benifei. For those who missed the story, yesterday, September 15, the two Pd members intervened on Instagram attacking the new Consolidated Income Tax Act. This text will redesign the arrangement of the rules governing the taxation of the severance pay (TFR). The accusation against Giorgia Meloni was that she had eliminated the safeguard clause with the aim of “raising funds on the backs of workers and pensioners”.
Too bad that, as the premier later pointed out, that clause was not canceled, but rather transferred into the new regulation. “The Consolidated Act reorganizes the regulation – Meloni clarified -, it reproduces the safeguard clause in the new legislation and repeals the old provision it replaces. They, instead, take the repeal of the old rule and present it as the abolition of protection. Is it election campaigning? Don’t they know how a Consolidated Act works? I fear it’s much worse: that they haven’t even read the measure they are commenting on. Because it would have been difficult to get to article 376 without realizing that article 21 denies the whole story. And these gentlemen are politicians and representatives of the Pd institutions.” A heavy blow, to which Fdi wanted to respond.

In a post published on X, the premier’s party labeled Morani and Benifei’s accusations as “fake news,” harshly attacking the Democratic Party and once again clarifying the situation: “The Pd makes yet another blunder. They shout about the “hit on the TFR” because in the new Consolidated Act they read that an old rule is repealed. Too bad that the protection is not canceled: it is simply transferred into the new regulation. The safeguard clause on the TFR remains. Only the place where it is written changes. So no hit, no gift to the detriment of workers, no ‘hidden tax’. What has disappeared, if anything, is the Pd’s ability to read the measures thoroughly before commenting on them. We have cut taxes. And we don’t take lessons from the gentlemen of the wealth tax.” Game, set and match.
