A magnificent Kimi Antonelli will start from pole position in the Monaco Grand Prix, valid for the Formula 1 World Championship. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver, leader of the World Championship, set the best time in qualifying with a sensational 1’12″051. Alongside him on the front row is an indomitable Max Verstappen, second in his RedBull at +0.043 seconds. Partial disappointment for Ferrari, which has to settle for the second row with Lewis Hamilton third at +0.228 and Charles Leclerc fourth at +0.300. Only sixth place for the other Mercedes of George Russell at +0.394, while the McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris do not go beyond seventh and eighth place. Antonelli’s pole, the fourth of his career, is only the second pole position for an Italian driver in Monaco after Jarno Trulli in 2004.
“It was one of those laps where I managed to put everything together, it was a very close qualifying with Verstappen. I knew the last lap was good, I’m very happy and a huge thank you to the team because yesterday we struggled and today we improved enormously.” This is how a smiling Kimi Antonelli commented on his pole position with Mercedes in the Monaco Grand Prix. “Qualifying here is one of the most intense of the year, you always have to go to the limit and get close to the wall but I had great confidence and I’m happy,” he added. “Does age help me? I’m definitely enjoying the car and the weekend, there’s been a big step forward compared to last year and I can’t wait for tomorrow,” he concluded.
