That is, faced with an obvious political problem for the center-left, namely the primaries (and especially their consequences on the alliance), the solution would be to bury one’s head in the sand.
It is not a particularly fortunate period, in short, for the MEP and president of the Democratic Party. Speaking on Corrente alternata on Giornale Radio, Bonaccini made a somewhat odd proposal: “For a few weeks I would abolish the word primaries, because if we only talk about primaries now we talk about names and surnames, while we need to close on the contents.” Even in this case, perhaps, the formula used by the former governor of Emilia Romagna may seem somewhat ominous to many.

For Bonaccini, it is necessary to overcome the veto right of individual states, which can block decisions. “Europe must act as a system, otherwise there will be trouble,” he stressed. On the issue of young people, the Democratic figure reiterated the need to bring back to Italy those who emigrated abroad. “The only remigration needed is to bring back to Italy many of those young people who went abroad.” To do this, he added, Italy must become “an opportunity” through “culture combined with work.” As for the Pd, Bonaccini calls for a “more popular” party, capable of being among citizens and listening to them. The priorities indicated are “work, public health, environment, and security. If then we have to hold primaries, we will, but it should not become an obsessive matter.”
