Manila Esposito won the gold medal in the floor exercise at the European artistic gymnastics Championships taking place in Zagreb. The Italian athlete, with a score of 13.700, outperformed all her rivals, including the favorite Russian Angelina Melnikova, who took bronze, behind the French Elena Colas. The Olympic silver medalist in the team final and Olympic bronze on the beam at Paris 2024 two years ago had won the all-around crown; this time she earned a specialty throne. Previously, the Campanian had won silver on the beam (narrowly beaten by a tenth by Elena Colas), Elisa Iorio took silver on the uneven bars, and Giulia Perotti bronze on the rings. One gold, two silvers, and one bronze is thus the great haul for Italy. In the medal table, the Italian team is second behind Russia, which leads with two golds from Angelina Melnikova in the all-around and vault.
“It was very exciting to compete in these two finals, I tried to give my best and I am returning home with a good result. I was a bit more worried than usual because it hasn’t been an easy year, I hoped to do well at the Europeans but I didn’t feel as confident as usual,” commented Manila Esposito after the event at the European Championships in Zagreb. “Tomorrow is the team final and we will give our best hoping for a good result,” the Italian athlete concluded, looking forward to the team event taking place tomorrow.
