Conte's words on woke? Clumsy and belated backtrack | Libero Quotidiano.it

Giuseppe Conte’s opportunistic distancing from woke culture (which is actually just a subculture) is something extremely late, approximate, and devoid of any conceptual elaboration. A clumsy attempt to hide his hands after having eaten the snack.

The woke attitudes, heirs of the nostalgia of 1968, have been, in recent years, the distinctive trait of the left, the most evident feature. A left that has long abandoned every social issue, the vocation to defend the weak, the centrality of work, and has found itself exclusively in the bland affirmation of wokism.

MARXISM

The only political proposal of the left in the last decade has been the senseless and unoriginal re-proposal of trends coming from American liberals. One can be critical of Marxism but cannot deny that it had its own historical and social structure. The disasters of woke culture in Western societies, on the other hand, have been significant and have resulted in a sort of dictatorship of political correctness hostile to common sense. Reality has been obscured by abstract formulas lacking any rooting in the history of people and nations. And all this has left the right with the battles against the new poverty created by globalization. The woke subculture is the antithesis of social justice because it wants to assert the privilege of some narrow elites; not by chance has the left also become electorally the expression of the ivory towers of the ZTLs.

IDENTITY

If Conte, then, wanted to be fully consistent with this new position, he should affirm the value of identity and tradition, which are the opposites of woke positions and cancel culture. Criticizing the woke subculture makes sense if one adheres to its opposite, that is, the culture of identity, of those traits that have substantiated peoples over centuries and centuries of history.

The impression is that, as often happens with the Five Star Movement, he goes with the wind in an attempt to intercept, without any coherence, the dominant currents in public opinion. Conte has understood that woke liturgies no longer pay off because people are tired of these abstractions and try to turn the page, forgetting that the Five Star Movement was among the high priests of wokism. We expect, in a few months, that Giuseppe Conte will take a position against illegal immigration.
