Pina Picierno’s farewell to the Democratic Party leaves a trail of venom. After all, it was to be expected. The one leaving is a woman who has always said what she had to say with force and in a direct manner, without calculations of prudence. And then in the Democratic Party, and the last 48 hours confirm it, Picierno was now poorly tolerated. For her positions distant from the official line on Ukraine, European Defense, Israel. «I would like to tell you with the same friendship», are Picierno’s words, «that a good part of the pitiful reactions that have arrived, even from some leaders of the Democratic Party – I read an honestly embarrassing Braga – are only confirmation that there is truly nothing left to save». Yesterday, Picierno announced that she does not intend to yield to pressure regarding her resignation. «The European Parliament’s rules of procedure», said the Vice-President’s staff at the European Parliament, «do not provide for the removal from office of members of the Bureau if they join another political group».
