“We have read the statements of the parliamentarians Giuseppe Conte and Francesco Boccia on the settlement that the State Attorney’s Office, together with the other competent offices, decided to conclude to avoid the State being exposed to a heavy compensation towards a private party who had acted to claim about half a billion in damages. It is good to recap the issue. A mask supplier company, in the midst of the pandemic emergency, signed a contract with the Conte Government to continuously supply Italians with masks. The Commissioner Arcuri, as soon as he was appointed, terminated the contract and then entered into others with a series of parties, including unknown Chinese consortia to whom the Italian Government paid €1,251,000,000. The company obviously sued asking for about half a billion in damages. The Rome Court condemned the Italian Government to pay the company, among other things, about €300,000,000 for behaviors considered ‘unfounded’, ‘pretextual’, ‘unjustified’, ‘contradictory’ by the then Commissioner Arcuri. Following this sentence, the Government appealed and the company insisted on receiving about half a billion euros from the Italians.” This is stated by the group leaders of Brothers of Italy in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, Galeazzo Bignami and Lucio Malan.
“The State Attorney’s Office, assisted by all the competent offices, conducted a purely technical evaluation deeming it appropriate to close the matter with a settlement and instead of the €300,000,000 owed to the company according to the Rome Court or the €500,000,000 requested by the company, about €100,000,000 were given to the company JC Electronics Italia, that is one third of the amount the State had already been condemned to pay and a third of what the company claimed. The settlement was regularly registered by the Court of Auditors – continue the FdI group leaders -. All this, it is worth reiterating, is due to the mistakes made by Arcuri, chosen by the Conte Government. Instead of apologizing, Conte and Boccia during the last session of the Covid Inquiry Commission tried a dramatic move claiming that the certifications on the masks produced by the company in question were false, something that the Rome Court, with another sentence, had already found to be unfounded and ruled against the Government. Despite yet another embarrassment, the parliamentarians Conte and Arcuri persist and now call for transparency, ask to see the documents, try, just to attack Giorgia Meloni, to defame the offices that in a third and impartial way evaluated the settlement solution and ask who will pay these €100,000,000 that the State had to pay because of their disastrous choices”.

The documents, as rightly decided by President Lisei, will be acquired by the Covid Commission even if it was not required and disseminated to those who request them. The choice, it is reiterated, was made by the offices and we are convinced that the offices made a choice of absolute common sense since the risk was to end up paying half a billion to the company in question. Finally, the last answer: according to Brothers of Italy, Arcuri must pay, since the Rome Court ruling clearly stated that the choices of the then Commissioner were contradictory, unfounded, pretextual, unjustified. And with Arcuri also those who allowed this shame to happen. For this reason, we have submitted an inquiry as Brothers of Italy asking that the Italian Government take legal action against Arcuri to recover the €100,000,000, as well as against other subjects then in Government considered possibly responsible. And it is incredible that those who caused the damage, like Conte and Boccia who were governing at the time, now pretend to explain to those who solved it what they should have done”.
