A survey by AnalisiPolitica on 1,000 Italian adults shows that support for Brothers of Italy seems to depend less and less on the figure of Giorgia Meloni alone and more and more on the political identity of the party. In 2023, 39% of FdI voters said they voted mainly for Meloni; in 2026 this reason drops to 21%. At the same time, the weight of the party’s values and structure grows. Those who vote FdI because they share the right-wing values increase from 22% to 40%, while trust in the leadership beyond the leader also rises (from 9% to 18%). Overall, motivations related to political identity and party organization rise from 31% to 58%.

Instead, the share of those who choose FdI as simply the “lesser evil” decreases (from 26% to 14%), indicating a greater positive identification with the party. The electoral base therefore seems to shift its trust from Meloni’s figure to the political community represented by FdI. Also, party loyalty grows: in 2026, 74% of voters say they would probably continue to vote for FdI even without Meloni at the helm, compared to 59% in 2025. Uncertainty drops drastically, with the “don’t know” going from 30% to 2%. Loyalty growth is stronger among the over 60s and in some areas of the country such as the Northwest and Center.

As highlighted in a previous study by AnalisiPolitica, Futuro Nazionale has gathered a share of voters previously oriented towards Brothers of Italy: 38% of its supporters declared they voted FdI in the last elections. However, since these are surveys referring to different samples, the data do not allow establishing a direct vote transfer from one party to another. Moreover, there is no structural weakening of FdI: the progressive reduction of Meloni’s personal centrality seems to be compensated by a strengthening of the party’s political and collective identity.
