The condition of Cagliari forward Yael Trepy is improving. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Santissima Annunziata in Sassari for a near-drowning incident last Sunday in the pool. The latest bulletin from Aou di Sassari certifies that the player, after about forty-eight hours of pharmacological coma, has awakened and been extubated. Upon awakening – it reads – the patient showed a full recovery of consciousness: he is alert and cooperative and, at present, shows no obvious neurological deficits. Respiratory and hemodynamic conditions are stable.”
“Neuromuscular blockade suspended and sedation progressively reduced, with simultaneous initiation of gradual reduction of ventilatory support,” the Aou di Sassari bulletin continues. “Maintaining optimal respiratory exchanges allowed mechanical ventilation to be discontinued and, in the afternoon, the patient was extubated,” explained Dr. Stefania Milia, director of the Emergency Intensive Care Unit at Santissima Annunziata Hospital of Aou di Sassari. Given the recent extubation and the pulmonary condition following inhalation syndrome, the patient remains hospitalized in Intensive Care, where close clinical and respiratory monitoring continues.
