The words of Virginia Libero on the need to renounce war through desertion were disliked by almost everyone. Neither on the left – where Elly Schlein carefully avoided defending her – nor even more so on the right. However, there is someone who was captivated by the statements of the secretary of the Young Democrats. Even going so far as to claim that the girl, precisely because of her clear position in favor of desertion, should have received the blessing of politics and the media.
It is naturally Marco Travaglio, who in today’s editorial in Fatto Quotidiano used only sweet words for young Virginia. “For three days the war fools of the right, center, and presumed left have been stoning Virginia Libero,” he begins in the piece. “Her fault – he continues – is knowing and loving the Constitution […] Instead of blessing her for having translated articles 3, 11, and 32 of the Constitution into modern language and demonstrated the absurdity of dividing progressives on peace and disarmament, the warmongers of politics and the media have taken to insulting and mocking her without Secretary Schlein defending her.”

The director of Fatto then lashed out against the representatives of the Democratic Party who had dared to contest Libero’s words. “And the ‘Dem reformists’ (the 6 or 7 interventionists from the sofa who march every morning in their living rooms) rose up as one,” it reads. And again: “These jokers, by repeatedly calling themselves ‘reformists,’ believe they have changed articles 11 and 52 of the Charter. Which fortunately remain the same as written by the Founding Fathers.” The cherry on top is found in the last sentence, where Travaglio even goes so far as to claim that “Desertion is a civic duty and a moral value.” Disconcerting.
