This time, it is the unemployment data that makes Italians smile. According to the latest Eurostat survey, the unemployed in Italy continue to decrease with an unemployment rate that stands at 5.1% in April 2026.

This is the lowest figure since 2004 to date and represents yet another drop since the current government took office. Since October 2022, the unemployment rate has fallen by 2.8%. The results are plain for all to see. “The more unemployment falls, the more the left’s nervousness grows. For years they lectured about workers, today they are forced to reckon with the results of the Meloni Government,” wrote the official page of Fratelli d’Italia on social media.

The party of Giorgia Meloni also posted a graph, which highlights a significant gap from some European countries that are too often taken as a model to follow. In Spain, Eurostat records an unemployment rate of 10.3% (+5.2% compared to Italy) and a youth unemployment rate of 23.7% (compared to Italy’s 16.9%). Italy also performs better than Sweden (unemployment rate of 8.6%, youth 21.4%) and Finland (unemployment rate of 10.6%, youth 22.2%).
