“There is a denture in the Transatlantic!“. The voice spreads at lunchtime while the Chamber of Deputies is debating a bill with measures for agriculture. The alarm is raised, half seriously and half jokingly, by some deputies and Montecitorio officials amused by the scene. On the red carpet of the so-called Corridor of Lost Steps (the most famous corridor in Italian politics where journalists roam in search of news), still crowded for the last scraps of chamber work before the summer break, a denture or what seemed, according to dental terminology, a removable prosthesis, appears.
It is a Montecitorio clerk, on duty in front of the hemicycle, who has the (ungrateful) task of picking up the object abandoned by some careless honorable member with a handkerchief and dispelling any doubt: “It is a dental bite, not exactly a denture…”. “It is a sign of the times“, jokes a long-serving parliamentarian, witness to the ‘discovery’. Immediately interrupted by another colleague: “It is still a 2.0 denture, if it’s not soup it’s soaked bread…”.
