To understand the record duration of this government in the history of the Republic, it may be useful to reread an interview that Fabio Mussi – historic leader of the Communist Party, then minister with Prodi, who died just yesterday at 78 years old – gave to L’Espresso in December 2007.
He says, among other things, about the crisis of the left with words that are now unacceptable: «Some time ago I received a letter from a worker from Piombino who said: I no longer follow you, by now you only deal with prisoners, faggots and blacks. Workers have disappeared from our horizon, erased. There is a part of society that you no longer see, so it ends that they no longer see you either».
Twenty years have passed and the situation of the left has not changed, if anything worsened, devastated by political correctness (only now partly repudiated) that made them lose sight of real problems. And here is the secret of the longevity of Giorgia Meloni and her government: the realism of the conservative right opposed to the demagogic utopia of the left. The problem is not how much we like Trump, Netanyahu or Von der Leyen, but how much we dislike Putin or the Palestinians of Hamas.

The question is: outside a loyal alliance with the Western political, financial and military bloc (which is not paradise on earth) would Italians be better or worse off, would Italy be more or less secure, would the economy grow more or less? Since the right answers are the latter (certainly we would be worse off in all fields) there is little point in splitting hairs with ifs and buts.
Italy of the record government is certainly a more concrete, serious and reliable country inside and outside its borders. Italians say so, the numbers support it. The rest is just propaganda and frustration.
