Agent 007, mystery mission. The twenty-sixth episode of the famous film saga born in 1962 from the fertile pen of Ian Fleming, the writer who invented the character, has the provisional title Bond 26 but the final title should be the patriotic For King and country. Little is known about the next adventure of the secret agent with a license to kill: the director will be the Canadian Denis Villeneuve, already a multiple Oscar nominee; the production will be the first branded Amazon MGM which has acquired all the rights related to the saga; filming will begin in 2027 and the film’s release is set for 2028 to extend the myth of the most famous secret agent.

Nothing else has been decided yet, not even who will be the villain of the moment also because everything depends on the choice of the actor destined to play him, Mr. Bond. The favorite seems to be Jack Lowden, strictly English after the farewell of the now 53-year-old Daniel Craig good 007 in five adventures: Casinò Royal dated 2005, Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No time to die (2021). Highly successful films that grossed the crazy amount of 37 billion dollars crowning Craig as one of the most appreciated 007s in history.
The choice is now complicated and shrouded in mystery because in the 64-year-long film saga not all actors who have worn the role of the agent with a license to kill have convinced the fans. The first, needless to say, remains a cult: Sean Connery wore the tuxedo in the first film of 1962, License to Kill, to conquer audiences worldwide in the subsequent From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and in the apocryphal Never Say Never Again. The adventure of George Lazenby was a failure, stiff and unsympathetic in the only episode dated 1968: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He was immediately fired. In 1972 the baton passed to Roger Moore who intelligently redesigned the character in seven films ensuring him British class and humor. From the first (Live and Let Die) to the last (A View to a Kill), Moore embraced the role. And he was liked. It went less well for Timothy Dalton, a Shakespearean actor who did not convince either in The Living Daylights or in Licence to Kill.
The ball, or rather the license to kill, thus passed in the 1990s to Pierce Brosnan who had been waiting for twenty years to play Bond: the four adventures with this handsome actor (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day) had good box office but it was the subsequent advent of Daniel Craig that brought Bond back to his former glory. Now, after rumors on the web that saw the next 007 played by a black actor or even a woman, the final decision of the production is awaited which is carrying out a series of auditions these weeks to not make mistakes and find the right Bond.
Jack Lowden, we said, is the favorite because he is English, charming, athletic and above all 36 years old. We remember him starring in Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan. Another candidate is Callum Turner, Londoner and star in the Fantastic Beasts saga and in the miniseries Masters of the Air. It is less likely that the role will be entrusted to Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Tom Holland.
The circle is closing, very soon agent 007 will have a new face and those who have followed him for about sixty years will know who will say the fateful line while lighting a cigarette (electronic?), adjusting his tuxedo bow tie: «My name is Bond, James Bond».
