Giuseppe Conte tried to pull a rabbit out of the hat. But he was immediately unmasked. The document he presented to the commission, received anonymously, would be for him the key evidence that would overturn the rulings of several courts in the dispute between the State and Jc Electronics. A legal dispute that, after yet another defeat for Italy, was closed by the Meloni government with a settlement of 100 million in favor of Jc Electronics of Dario Bianchi. This very agreement has come under the spotlight of the opposition, still convinced (despite the rulings) of the good work of commissioner Domenico Arcuri and the yellow-red government engaged during the Covid crisis.

Indeed, they had unilaterally interrupted the supply agreement with the company, considering the over 10 million masks supplied unsuitable to protect against the virus. But the patchwork delivered by Conte to the Rome Prosecutor’s Office will hardly overturn anything. The document, dated April 14, 2022, is largely the result of two reports prepared by the commissioner’s office following inspections carried out at the Sda warehouses in Pomezia and Fara Sabina. These two documents, as explained by engineer Bianchi himself, were evaluated by the judges “in the tax case” that saw Electronics prevail over the State. The overlap with the file presented by the former premier is evident. The photos of the masks and the Npttl (National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory) reports, with the attached captions, are identical; as are the shipping codes of the packages examined during the Fara Sabina inspection. The same typo present in the commissioner’s office report was even transcribed without correction: “centers for desease (instead of disease) control”.

And the estimated number of masks is the same: 10,243,445. A true copy and paste expressly declared on the last page of Conte’s document: “The inspection reports carried out on September 6/7, 2021 at the Sda warehouses in Pomezia (called Annex 40) and on September 13/14/27/28 at the Sda warehouses in Fara Sabina (called Annex 41) are attached.” The same reports already under scrutiny by the judiciary.
