The sentence is from Judge Franco Caroleo of the Court of Milan – Labor section – and was disseminated by AdnKronos. The sentence accepts the requests of two former collaborators assisted by lawyers Francesca Verdura, Tiziana Laratta and Sergio Romanotto, who tried in vain to notify the introductory appeal of the judgment to the official residence address.

Salis, arrested in Hungary for assaulting far-right militants during the so-called “Day of Honor” demonstrations, was elected MEP with Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra in June 2024. A victory to which the two former collaborators also contributed, then fired only after a few months (in February 2025) and without notice. The two contracts, both expiring at the end of the parliamentary mandate (July 16, 2029), as stated in the sentence held by Adnkronos, essentially have the same remuneration (2,900 and 3,000 euros per month) and similar duties: the development of projects aimed at enhancing the role of the European parliamentarian, the planning and management of campaigns and events in Italy and abroad, assistance for contacts with authorities or political consulting in strategic and tactical areas.

The political idyll soon turns into a clash. First, an assistant receives an early termination for the “loss of the relationship of trust” which transforms the collaboration into a “situation of environmental and personal incompatibility”; then a colleague has his assignment revoked with immediate effect “given the manifest dissatisfaction regarding the content of his collaboration”. In the verdict from last March, held by Adnkronos, it is highlighted that “it is certainly up to the employer to bear the burden of proof of just cause”, but “by remaining in absentia” Salis “evidently did not fulfill her burden” and “therefore the non-existence of just cause in the challenged terminations must be affirmed”. The result is compensation for damages totaling 300,900 euros, for the lost earnings of the two collaborators until the end of their mandate, and 10 thousand euros for legal fees. Making a quick calculation, Ilaria Salis will have to turn over her entire MEP salary to the two collaborators “sacked” without just cause.
