Just off the podium was the other ‘red’ Lewis Hamilton who, despite a 5-second penalty served at the first pit stop, finished ahead of Oscar Piastri. Following were Hadjar, Norris, and Bortoleto, then Lindblad and Colapinto. Antonelli, with six wins, matches Riccardo Patrese, the second most successful Italian driver ever behind Ascari (13). He also equals stars like Jacques Laffite, Jochen Rindt, and Gilles Villeneuve in 46th place of all time.
“It was wonderful to return to the podium after a series of difficult stages. It was a fierce race, lost the lead of the race due to the safety car and it was a tough battle with Leclerc because he was fast,” Antonelli said immediately after the victory. “Have I regained momentum? I have always had momentum but I couldn’t bring home the results for various reasons. I have to seize every opportunity, we must continue to push forward the performances and see what happens at the end of the year,” he concluded.
