The match will open after the ratification of Cannizzaro’s resignation from the Chamber. The Forza Italia deputy, elected mayor of Reggio Calabria at the end of May with 65% of the vote, left Montecitorio on July 13. The formalization is expected at the first available session of the Chamber, from which the procedure to call the by-elections in the single-member constituency Calabria 5, corresponding to the province of Reggio Calabria, will start. According to rumors, the name identified by the party to take over the legacy would be precisely that of Roscioli.

His resume also includes the role of liquidator of the People of Freedom in 2013 and, since June 22, 2023, that of treasurer of Forza Italia, assumed a few days after the death of Silvio Berlusconi in place of Alfredo Messina. Since then, he has managed the party’s accounts, supported by the guarantee of the Berlusconi family on debts exceeding 90 million euros.
