There are those who celebrate the centenary of their favorite team and those who, jokingly, end up being accused of bringing bad luck to it. This is what happened to Eugenio Giani, who on the eve of Fiorentina’s centenary match had celebrated the team’s hundred years on social media.

An impassioned message from the president of the Tuscany Region, who wrote on his Facebook profile: “One hundred years of a passion that cannot be explained: it is lived. Happy centenary, Fiorentina. Happy birthday to a part of the heart of Florence and Tuscany.”
Too bad that, a few hours later, the celebration turned into a nightmare. At the Franchi, in front of their own fans and on the day of the centenary celebrations, Fiorentina was overwhelmed 0-3 by Frosinone. A very heavy defeat, which came right after Giani’s celebratory message, inevitably fueling irony on social media.
And so, in the comments on the post, besides the wishes and messages of affection for Viola, there were also criticisms. Some joked precisely about the timing of the message, even joking that the president of the Region had brought bad luck to the team on the most important day in its recent history.

But the discussion did not stop at superstition. What sparked debate was especially the fact that Giani used his institutional profile to publicly declare his football allegiance. His Facebook account, in fact, presents itself as the official one of the “President of the Tuscany Region”.
And this is precisely where part of the criticism focuses: not so much on being a Fiorentina fan — a passion that Giani has always publicly shown and is well known — but on the appropriateness of using a channel with a strong institutional connotation for a message so explicitly linked to a football team. “Really impartial the President of the Region on his institutional page,” “update the scoreboard,” are just some of the comments.
Meanwhile, the prophecy — if we want to call it that — had a decidedly purple ending: the post for the centenary, the celebration at the Franchi, and then the sensational 0-3. That was enough for some in the comments to turn Giani into the new involuntary “bad luck charm” of Fiorentina. It is hard to say if it is really his fault. Certainly, for Viola fans, after an evening like that, even superstition becomes a topic of discussion.
