The enemy is the heat. The blame clearly on the government. The morning is already scorching when the leader Elly Schlein throws, on social media, her message against the heat. The Dem secretariat yesterday launched in Rome, precisely at the Giardino Galafati in Pigneto, “The proposals of the Democratic Party to protect ourselves from heat waves.” Along with Schlein were deputy Chiara Braga, MEP Annalisa Corrado, the former president of Legambiente Rossella Muroni and Caterina Sarafatti, CEO for inclusion and global leadership of C40Cities. Host was the ever-present mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri.

“This heat is not normal. And no, we must not get used to it, as some on the right say. We must prepare,” here is the number one of the Dems who despite the temperatures launched her attack on the Meloni government presenting the Pd Heat Plan. She starts with climate terror. “There have already been 12,000 deaths in Europe from this latest heat wave and unfortunately the climate emergency continues to claim victims even in our country. And perhaps the Dems care even less if globally “from 2000 to 2019, 91% of deaths caused by extreme temperatures were due to cold and only 9% to heat,” as Luigi Mariani, professor of Agrometeorology, reminded our columns. Only the usual advice for facing summer is missing: don’t go out during the central hours of the day, drink plenty of water and eat light foods.
Then comes the tree moment. “They can help reduce the temperatures of our cities. It happened in Colombia, in Medellín, where they decided to redesign the city by crossing it with 40 green corridors and this helped reduce the average temperature in the city by 2° degrees.” A relaunch, therefore, of the tree festival introduced by then minister Guido Bacelli in 1899 and made law, by Royal decree, during fascism on December 30, 1923. As explained by deputy Chiara Braga. Among the various initiatives also the promotion of cooling systems for school buildings and public residential buildings. Who knows if the broad field will hold up to this proposal, given the hardline positions against air conditioning of the green Angelo Bonelli.
