While waiting to understand if there will be a new meeting today between Salvini and the governors, the Pontida machine continues nonstop. The images arriving from the large meadow show workers assembling the stage and the tents to host militants and associations. The Lega reports that the attention on the gathering is high, so much so that more than two hundred accredited journalists will follow the two-day event of the Carroccio.

Numbers aside, it is clear that the spotlight will be on the moods among the militants and the reactions that the various speeches will provoke. Also for this reason, for a couple of days now, both from the Salvinian side and from that of the governors, the watchword has been: “All united for the Lega at Pontida,” for the rest there will be time to discuss and decide.
THE POSITIONS
The Lega leader said this as a guest on Mattino Cinque: “The Lega wins if it is united. I gather suggestions, but we cannot waste time on squabbles and alchemies.” Attilio Fontana, engaged in an event in Liguria, confirms: “The meeting with Salvini? It went well. We talked. And then there is peace if there was war: if a scolding were enough to declare war…”. Then of course there are positions to be refined, because if Salvini says that “we have international challenges so important that concern work, the economy, security, Islam, artificial intelligence, that we cannot think of having parties within parties.
The Lega must be a protagonist of the future and not of the past.” Words that somehow hint at skepticism about the idea of “splitting” the Lega into three (North, Center, and South) proposed to the leader by the governors; there is a Fontana who reiterates: “We have always been a federalist movement and this is the future that the Lega must have. The association of the North? We will make it, as well as that of the Center and the South, because each territory has its needs and must have the possibility to express its requests. Nothing revolutionary”.
However, the atmosphere seems to be clearing ahead of Pontida, as understood from the words of deputy secretary Claudio Durigon, who on SkyTg24 shields Massimiliano Romeo’s role: “he was the group leader, he is the group leader and he will be the group leader. He is working well, then on the methodology of how something can be changed in Lega I see it differently from a book. Also with him – continues Durigon – we will have a calm discussion and it will be at the Pontida confrontation that we will do it in the right way to do well for the party.” Words that could suggest that Romeo will speak from the stage as scripted, but they are also a sign of what we anticipated, namely that the moderate wing close to Salvini has advised caution regarding ruptures and “purges”.

THE YOUNG PEOPLE
As usual, today will be dedicated to young people, with a discussion between ministers and “baby” administrators, starting with the Venetian Alberto Stefani, the youngest governor in Italy. There will be four “panels” coordinated by the ministers and Stefani with young Lega members engaged in administration and the party. These round tables will be interspersed with interventions by MEPs Isabella Tovaglieri and Susanna Ceccardi.
The event will close with the youth leader Luca Toccalini and a grand finale with Matteo Salvini’s speech. The most delicate moment could be Toccalini’s intervention, who after the recent controversies by some Lombard provinces, confirmed that today “will be the occasion for the appointment of three federal vice coordinators called to strengthen the team ahead of the youth congress scheduled for early 2027 where – together and democratically – we will choose who will lead the Lega youth in the challenges of the future”.
A youth delegation, Toccalini confirms, “will be present at the memorial mass for Umberto Bossi,” which will be held at 5 pm at the Abbey of Pontida, organized by the former Giuseppe Leoni. The participation of Minister Calderioli has been announced, but his may not be the only illustrious presence. At the end of the ceremony, an olive tree will be planted. But the figure of the founder will also be remembered on Sunday by Matteo Salvini.
