“We reposted them, it’s satire, I understand the hatred you have because we are emptying the party electorally, but you need to calm down”: Laura Ravetto, recently moved from the Lega to Futuro Nazionale of Roberto Vannacci, said this addressing her former party colleague and leader of the Carroccio group in the Chamber, Riccardo Molinari, regarding the videos made with artificial intelligence and shared in recent days by Vannacci. Videos that sparked controversy due to their rather violent content. It happened on Agorà estate, on Rai 3.
The clash between the two, however, was heated from the start and not only on the Vannacci issue. First of all, Ravetto rejected the measure to cut the cost of mobile excise duties for diesel until August 6 announced by Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti: “The only way to intervene quickly is to buy gas, even from Russia.” “I don’t understand what gas has to do with fuels…”, Molinari replied. And the former Lega member: “There is a whole industrial issue.” Then, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was addressed, with Molinari telling the neo-Vannacci deputy: “You don’t know where the gas passes.” And she: “Colleague Molinari, don’t avoid the question, why don’t we stop using citizens’ money to finance a failed mission? I note that the Lega has changed its mind and wants to continue financing it.” And Molinari again: “The truth is that as a Lega deputy you voted for all the aid packages to Ukraine, so at most you are the one who changed your mind, saying such things means mocking people.”
Ravetto, at that point, spoke about the defections of several political figures from Lega to Fn: “Eight deputies have left your group in the Chamber, not the Senate, because every time we voted on those packages you told us it would be the last one.” “I never said anything like that, you left because you hope to be re-nominated, which probably wouldn’t have happened in the Lega, don’t lie to the citizens,” the Lega member replied.
The next topic was precisely the Vannacci videos. In one, in particular, the opposition leaders are seen being executed in an ancient Roman arena. “The general didn’t make them. We have a problem with taxes and the high cost of living and we need to talk about satirical videos,” Ravetto began. “The colleague can’t come out saying that Vannacci has nothing to do with it, anyone can see they are all linked to his profile and have the Fn symbol,” emphasized the Lega group leader in Montecitorio. “Molinari needs to calm down, I understand his bitterness, I understand the hatred because we are emptying you,” Ravetto’s jab. Annoyed by the continuous interruptions, the Lega member then asked: “Can I speak? Can I speak?”. But Ravetto insisted and, referring to Matteo Salvini, added: “Your secretary made videos with inflatable dolls…”. “And if he didn’t like it, he could have not joined the Lega,” Molinari pointed out. “And indeed I left,” was the reply.
The Lega member then recalled that “there is another video, Vannacci marches on Rome with armed soldiers behind him giving Roman salutes, you have always said you are liberal and yet you support this political message, and also explain why you don’t let me speak”; “I am liberal but I am not left-wing like you”, the deputy concluded.
