The results of the survey conducted among the participants at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio leave no room for doubt: the economic and financial world supports and trusts the Meloni government while rejecting without appeal the left of Elly Schlein and Giuseppe Conte. If we add the cold reception given to Roberto Vannacci, the puzzle is complete: those who produce and invest are fine with things as they are. And at the same time, the chaos of the Broad Field frightens, which, just to exist, is putting itself in the hands of its most ideological and illiberal components and factions with destabilizing prospects. In other words, those who live by facts and not slogans know well that a government – given the international situation – could not have done more; that if tomorrow the left were to come to power, it would not be able to impact the high energy bills, American tariffs, tax pressure, wars, and their costs.
So it is worth – it seems to me the reasoning made in Cernobbio – holding tight to the stability and reliability of the current majority while waiting for better times. All this is certainly a blow to the left’s aspirations to govern this country, but also a warning to the center-right not to break up over mere electoral issues, not to give the impression that the magic glue that allowed the record duration of a government has dried up, no longer holds. Because then yes, there would be big trouble, far worse than Vannacci.
