If the tram unmasks the white man | Libero Quotidiano.it

In the Florence of the Red Soviet that imposes everything in a hyper-centralized manner (including the use of homes, disregarding private property, see the long-standing case of short-term rentals and vacant properties), instead of focusing on the real problems of chaotic mobility – such as endless construction sites, safety at bus stops, or fare integration – they even end up lecturing citizens, categorizing them based on bizarre parlor categories. We will call it urban sociology. And no, we fear the heat cannot be blamed…

The lecture is given by the PD city councilor, Stefania Collesei, a veteran of local politics and former president of District 5. During a speech in the Council at the end of June, Collesei launched remarks destined to remain in the annals of political surrealism: «Since I very often take the tram, I have noticed that especially during certain time slots, but I would say very often, the tram is frequented by women and foreigners. White male man not present. So there will be work to do on this, there will be work to do because while in European countries managers take the tram, instead Florentine managers go by car and maybe it is worth changing habits. Maybe it is worth changing habits».

What idiots these managers are, they haven’t understood that using the tram determines the civic judgment of their morality. The syllogism is elementary: if you take the tram you are a virtuous person, if you use the car you are a vile representative of the patriarchy who refuses the ecological transition. It is useless to argue that maybe the average Italian (white, black, man or woman) who prefers the car or scooter often does not do so to spite the planet or to reaffirm their toxic masculinity, but perhaps because they have to juggle work, children, private errands, and a decent social life, things that cannot be reconciled using only public transport. Then they will remain stuck for hours in the car precisely because of the tram construction sites, but maybe they do not risk having to wait for the next tram because they had to get off the one they were on which meanwhile caught fire (two days before the councilor’s speech there was actually a double fire involving a tram car and a bus…).

However, the anathema of Collesei will remain on him, and it matters little that the tramway so desired by the (strictly red) administrations of Florence is a project dating back to the 1980s and that centuries-old pines and plane trees were sacrificed to build it: the promised replanting will take decades to guarantee the function of the greenery uprooted in the name of ecological transport (?), but at least the tram is fulfilling its function: unmasking that bastard the «white male man».
