The latest ‘brilliant’ move by the left to ‘save the country’ from the electoral reform is, believe it or not, a night vigil in front of the Chamber, complete with beer and background music. Yes, starting at 6 PM today, in Piazza Montecitorio, Riccardo Magi and other associations will promote the “Night of Democracy” to protest against the Stabilicum-Melonellum. An initiative that will most likely also see the participation of Elly Schlein, Giuseppe Conte, Angelo Bonelli, and Nicola Fratoianni.
As stated in a note published by Più Europa, the reform would represent “a serious distortion of the principles of democratic representation” and would continue to “exclude millions of students and off-site workers from the possibility of voting in truly accessible ways.” During the demonstration, the note further states, “participants will be invited to bring a white flower, a symbol of a civil vigil for democracy and the will to defend the constitutional principles of representation.” And then, of course, drinking.

Meanwhile, the center-right has resolved the issue of preferences. The League and Forza Italia have announced their vote in favor of the amendment signed by FdI, Noi Moderati, and Udc, yielding to the pressure from Giorgia Meloni. Meloni, with a post on social media about the amendment on preferences to the new electoral law that will be voted on today in the Chamber, challenged the center-left: “This afternoon the amendment, proposed by Brothers of Italy and supported by the majority parties, to introduce preferences in the electoral law, as many, including among the opposition, have requested, will be voted on. At this point, I believe a truth operation is necessary, to understand whether those parties that have long called for citizens to be able to choose their own parliamentarians do so out of conviction or just to mock Italians. There is only one way to find out: that the amendment be voted on by open ballot and not by secret vote.”
