Another grotesque episode for Alessandra Todde, the president of Sardinia. Everything revolves around the arrival of inmates under the 41 bis regime at the Uta prison, a wing that was actually designated for this purpose by Alfonso Bonafede, a member of the M5s, when the Pd was in the majority in the Conte II government. The Sardinian governor contested the decision of the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, accusing the government of acting without adequate consultation with Sardinian institutions. Todde acknowledges that “The 41 bis is a fundamental tool against organized crime,” but criticizes the concentration in Sardinia of numerous inmates subjected to the special regime.
The president also spoke of Sardinia being transformed into the “Cayenne of Italy“, recalling the difficulties already present in the Uta and Bancali prisons. Along the same lines is the regional secretary of the Pd Silvio Lai, who believes that insularity is exploited to “keep the bosses away from the peninsula”.

Responding is Salvatore Deidda, Sardinian deputy of Brothers of Italy, who calls the protest “a surreal spectacle“. The reason? The Uta facility designated for the 41 bis was completed precisely during the Conte II government. “To witness today the protests and barricades of the left and the president of the Region Alessandra Todde against the arrival of inmates under the hard prison regime at Uta is a surreal spectacle,” says Deidda.

The ward, the parliamentarian recalls, was completed on January 7, 2021, when – as mentioned earlier – Bonafede was Minister of Justice and Conte led the executive supported by M5S and Pd. After testing and adjustments, in July 2025 the Dap announced its activation. In December the national plan for the reorganization of the 41 bis circuit arrived.
“The current government – emphasizes Deidda – has done nothing but test and put into operation, out of duty of efficiency and to avoid wasting public resources already spent, a work inherited from the center-left and the Five Star Movement.” And the conclusion is entirely political: “If Todde complains about Sardinia being transformed into Cayenne, she only has to complain to her own party.”
