Fuochino: it is the front page headline of Domani, the newspaper directed by Emiliano Fittipaldi and published by Carlo De Benedetti that for one day, the day of the record for the longest tenure of an Italian prime minister at Palazzo Chigi achieved by Giorgia Meloni, allows itself the luxury of surpassing to the left Repubblica and Fatto quotidiano and turning into a megaphone for the opposition leaders. Indeed, amplifying to the paroxysm the accusations that the heads of Pd, M5s and Avs have directed at the government. A record amount (coincidentally) of mud and venom, all together and all in two pages and a handful of articles.

After the front page, with a photo of the empty stage in Bari, obviously, almost symbolizing failure, here is a nice double page, 2 and 3, entirely dedicated to demolishing the prime minister and government. We are in the realm of “Character assassination“, to use Sigfrido Ranucci‘s words. 

The line is dictated by Giulia Merlo, with the piece that should be the “news” one of the bunch. Imagine the rest. “Meloni celebrates in Bari with the ghost of missed reforms.” It reads: “Between promises and claims, the leader will launch the race to the vote. But failures on autonomy, premiership, and justice weigh on her.”

For Pietro Ignazi, political scientist and commentator, “the stability of the government is a suffocating swamp.” Better, certainly, the instability of the First Republic or the quail jumps like Conte, two governments in two years with two opposite majorities. Or the stability of the technicians, professors, Mario Draghi, the grand coalitions and national unity governments (and the cross vetoes). After all, on July 27, 2022, following the fall of SuperMario, it was Engineer De Benedetti who launched the big idea of a “CLN logic” to contain the rise of Meloni and the right-wing.
