Bignami starts from the result of the recent Venetian municipal elections: “Venice has just voted – first recalls the president of the Meloni deputies -, some Bengalis ran for the PD, in the name of Allah merciful, as they said.” According to the parliamentarian, the electoral defeat would represent a clear indication: “If you propose something, run in the elections with that thing and lose, that thing does not happen, it’s called democracy.”
In his intervention, Bignami then refers to Article 8 of the Constitution, arguing that there is no agreement between the Italian State and Islamic communities. The parliamentarian attributes this situation to the difficulty of identifying a unified representation of Islam and raises issues related to women’s rights, polygamy, and arranged marriages.
