The Covid Inquiry Commission is moving forward and, according to Brothers of Italy, the work done so far has revealed elements that deserve further investigation into the management of the pandemic by the Conte II government. In Gatteo a Mare, during a stop of the summer tour “Bar Italia,” the FdI group leader in the Chamber Galeazzo Bignami pointed the finger at Giuseppe Conte and the handling of the health emergency.

“Conte is the only Italian who regrets the Covid period, because he did whatever he wanted. He issued DPCMs without going through Parliament. He has a great nostalgia for that period… Yet many things were badly managed,” Bignami said. He added: “Digging and digging… we have discovered incredible things. And we are only halfway through the work.”

The deputy then asked to hear Mario Draghi in the Commission as well: “I believe it is right to summon Draghi to the Covid commission. I would like to ask him a question: why did he change Arcuri as soon as he arrived if everything was going so well?” But it is on the possible judicial relevance of the emerging events that Bignami intensified his stance: “Those who make mistakes must pay, but the Covid commission is not a court. For me, what is emerging would have deserved the opening not of 1 or 2, but of 10-20-30 files. Alice Buonguerrieri, FdI group leader in the Commission, reiterated instead the inquiry’s goal: “To clarify one of the most sad and opaque periods in the history of the Italian Republic. Italians have the right to know how their money was spent, while they were locked up at home by means of DPCMs announced in the evening for the following morning.” Among the cited dossiers are the mega-contract worth 1 billion and 251 million euros for Chinese masks, the alleged requests for percentages on orders, and the protocol of “Tachipirina and watchful waiting.” Also targeted is the management of vaccine adverse effects. The Commission, Buonguerrieri assures, will continue “without discounts” and “exclusively in the interest of the truth.”
