The strategy is always the same: cause the damage and then, to try to hide the responsibilities, fiercely attack those who try to fix it, blaming them for everything. Exactly what happened with the super bonus, just to be clear, devised by the yellow-red government and managed by the Draghi and Meloni administrations, which, to prevent chain failures, could not stop funding it.
With the Mediterranean Games, ongoing in Taranto until September 3, it’s the same old story. Giuseppe Conte, Michele Emiliano, and Rinaldo Melucci, at the time respectively Prime Minister, Governor of the Puglia Region, and Mayor of Taranto: this is the trio that, back in 2019, strongly wanted the event, assuring it would cost next to nothing. The official purpose was to promote what is the least touristic province of Puglia, despite its beauties; more prosaically, the aim was also to divert attention from the endemic crisis of Ilva, unfortunately and undeservedly the only thing the city overlooking the Ionian Sea is known for.
Giuseppe Conte, the backtrack is not credible
Why is no one on the left credible when they say we need to overcome woke culture? Because they lie…
The method was typical of the Five Star Movement, especially when in the yellow-red version: making a feast with dried figs. The fact is that, after a couple of years of nothing happening and micro-allocations, with Giuseppi cuore di Puglia sent home, among other skeletons in the closet, misfortunes and inefficiencies, Mario Draghi also finds the Mediterranean Games dossier on his desk. The former banker immediately understands that nothing has been done, that it’s time to start running, and that, to avoid embarrassments, Emiliano and company must be neutralized and a lot of money is needed; so he allocates 150 million euros and lays the groundwork for a commissioner appointment.
Then comes the turn of Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi, who can do nothing but proceed with the appointment of the commissioner. It falls to Massimo Ferraresi, a local industrialist with a successful sports background as owner of the Brindisi basketball team and a past political commitment in centrist-inspired civic forces, including election as provincial president defeating the center-right candidate. A technical appointment that leads to the redefinition of the investment plan, including public infrastructure and road projects, as well as sports facilities. The cost thus rises to over 250 million, which becomes 370 if expenses for organizing and managing the event are included.

It is worth noting that, for once, the judiciary had nothing to complain about. However, the forgetful daily, that is the newspaper directed by Marco Travaglio, specialized in always telling only part of the story, carefully avoiding the part that could embarrass its protégé, Conte, jumped up to denounce the supposed Meloni waste with the usual Savonarola tones. Our man, reluctantly forced to acknowledge that the proof of recovering lost time by the yellow-reds and closing the sites at record speed has been successfully passed, prophesies that in a year no one will use the sports facilities built in Taranto. This thesis is partly supported also by Milena Gabanelli, in her Data Room, who fears a fallout on the territory of the investment that risks being significantly lower than expected.
Meloni in Taranto, here’s who booed her: leftist madness, now everything comes back
Prime Minister Meloni participated Friday evening, together with President Mattarella and other state and government officials…
The moral of the story? Three considerations. The first is that the Taranto Games, as were the Winter Games in Milan and Cortina, are yet another opportunity for the No party to show off, largely overlapping with the Five Star party, which, despite having the mayor of the Capital, strongly opposed the Olympics in Rome. It is the product of those who, perhaps because everything they undertake results in a waste of money, are by principle opposed to any work or initiative done by others. The second is that there is only one way to revive a depressed area, and that is to invest in it: the initial project of Conte and Emiliano was a diversion, responding to the logic of panem et circenses in Puglia style, while the government looks to the future of Taranto, to what it must be after the Mediterranean Games. Finally, the waste in the Ionian city is not the hundred million more or less that could have been spent on the event, which are still a lot, but the five billion that the paralysis of Ilva has cost Italy in direct expenses alone, not considering the economic opportunities lost due to judicial measures. On these, Travaglio and Conte have nothing to say?
