Doubts, distinctions, and above all silences about his connection with Lavitola are growing. The atmosphere in the party is heavy, there is an “embarrassment” increasingly difficult to hide.
The clearest position, according to Corriere della Sera, comes from Luigi Zanda, former Pd group leader in the Senate. According to Zanda, the events linking Ranucci to Valter Lavitola “are serious facts that must be clarified for the good of the investigative program.” For this reason, the journalist should take a step back from hosting Report, so as to also protect Rai. “I believe that a suspension from his leading role could help,” Zanda says.

The issue, according to the former group leader, concerns a series of elements still to be clarified: an attack, wiretaps, admissions of responsibility before the investigators, and a political project that would have involved Ranucci himself. Even the hypothesis of a Ranucci premier project is dismissed without mincing words: “Politics is a serious matter.”

In the party, however, not everyone intends to go that far. Sandro Ruotolo claims a clear line: wait for the judiciary and defend Report. And he rejects the idea that Elly Schlein has disappeared from the political scene: “No escape. It’s simply mid-August.” The discontent also emerges in the post where Ranucci had linked his name to those of Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino, Aldo Moro, and Piersanti Mattarella. A reference that provoked very harsh reactions. Pietro Grasso notes that “there will always be those who use those names as a shield.” Giuseppe Ayala calls the comparison “simply incommentable.” Luciano Violante, on the other hand, recalls that Moro, Mattarella, Falcone, and Borsellino “would not have gone to dinner with Lavitola.” Even the president of the Anm, Giuseppe Tango, intervenes on the case: Falcone and Borsellino, he says, are “exceptional figures” and using their names to support other battles “is always wrong.” Meanwhile, in the Pd the defense of Ranucci is no longer united. And the crack, this time, is clearly visible on the wall.
