During a television interview, while describing his feelings after the victory, Tentoglou suddenly realized he no longer had the gold medal he had just won around his neck. The champion then interrupted the conversation, pointing to the place where he thought he had left it and admitting with surprise: “I don’t have the medal? They gave it to me, but I left it there… I made a mistake.”
After apologizing for the language, the athlete explained that he had taken off the medal in the locker room while changing and forgotten it on a bench. The journalist, amused by the situation, suggested he go immediately to retrieve it, reminding him that he should have it with him for the award ceremony.

Tentoglou then ran to the locker rooms, where fortunately he found the precious keepsake still in its place. On the same bench were also the three European medals won in previous editions.
Back in front of the cameras with a smile, the champion then joked about the trophy, observing: “If it had been a little heavier… it looks like it’s made of plastic, I would have appreciated it more.” A curious little scene that added lightness to an otherwise triumphant day for the Greek star.
