Myrta Merlino is ready to return to TV. But the former host is (formally) starting again from abroad. From next autumn, in fact, the former morning face of La7 and then (with less success) of Pomeriggio Cinque, will reclaim the small screen. However, the channel hosting her exploits will not be an Italian broadcaster but the state TV of the Republic of San Marino which, technically and bureaucratically, is managed by Rai but formally is under the jurisdiction of the small but ancient state that stands tall in the heart of Romagna. Even the announcement was made from the land (actually from a terrace) of Romagna: the summer show hosted by Simona Ventura and Giovanni Terzi from the Grand’Hotel in Rimini, where the former Rai CEO, Roberto Sergio (now with San Marino RTV) announced the upcoming arrival of Merlino at San Marino’s radio and television.
However, beware of talking about “demotion” for the host, partner of world champion Marco Tardelli. If, in fact, we look at it strictly geographically, Myrta’s move is effectively a rise. From the flat and very plain Cologno Monzese in the Po Valley, the Neapolitan journalist will climb the transmitter of the TV of a state located atop a mountain with a rather grandiose name: Titano.

For the host, it will therefore be a return to the spotlight after a sabbatical year that Myrta deemed necessary following a not exactly easy stay at Mediaset. Arriving at Canale 5 in 2023 with the difficult task of taking over from Barbara D’Urso, Merlino never managed to win over the afternoon audience of the Biscione. Now the bet is called San Marino RTV. A broadcaster that, from a small border reality, is trying to transform into a national television laboratory. The relaunch project led by Roberto Sergio indeed involves the arrival of well-known faces from Italian TV. After Simona Ventura, Giovanni Terzi, Roberto Giacobbo, and Paolo Mieli, here is also Myrta Merlino, called to give prestige and recognition to a channel aiming to carve out an increasingly visible space in the Italian generalist panorama. It remains to be seen what the format of the new program will be. Absolute silence on the title and placement of the new show. The only certainty is the jump on the digital terrestrial remote control that will see Myrta Merlino jump from button 5 to 550.
