Too bad this is yet another big bluff by the Five Star Movement leader: it has been known for days that today, initially set as the date to hear the former premier, the Covid Commission cannot be held. The work of the Chamber and Senate will continue nonstop until tomorrow, forcing parliamentarians to stay in the chamber for votes. For this reason, the commission president Marco Lisei, after Giuseppi’s resignation, announced that he had canceled the session.

“Already last week my offices had contacted Conte’s secretariat anticipating that it would be difficult to hold the hearing on August 4 and 5. Therefore, they had asked for other availabilities and I myself, during the last session, had warned that it would be useful for the M5S leader to propose other dates,” explained the senator from Brothers of Italy in a statement. Until the last moment, Conte was pursued to agree on a useful day: “On last Friday my offices again contacted Conte’s secretariat, but without receiving availability for other days.” A back and forth that ended yesterday with the pantomime of the Five Star Movement leader who, coincidentally, after a month of hesitation announced he was ready to speak. The only available date before the summer holidays would be Thursday, August 6. But scheduling a commission of many hours would be very difficult due to some votes on the calendar. For this reason, President Lisei is considering calling the session on Monday, August 10 or Tuesday, August 11, despite the closure of the Chambers. At that point, the ball would pass to Conte who would have to confirm his availability to appear. But it is not excluded that he might play a new counter-move from the deck.
