From “Meloni come to Parliament to report” to “Meloni come to the banks of the Po to see the drought” was just a moment. The new mantra of the left on the climate crisis, launched in recent days by Elly Schlein, has infected the entire broad field. So yesterday Angelo Bonelli, spokesperson for Avs, transformed into a new Greta Thunberg ready to wave the flag of environmentalism without ifs or buts. Thus, after the left in Europe has massacred entire productive sectors of the continent with the crazy rules on the “Green Deal,” it has now decided to deliver the final blow to what remains of our economy. All told with tones of the last days of Pompeii: “We are facing a dramatic climate crisis, the Po river practically almost dry. In front of this, I ask the President of the Council Meloni, as she did when there was the flood in Emilia-Romagna, to come and see what is happening, because ‘climate indifference‘ kills the future of the generations to come.” And again: “We need interventions also because when rivers dry up there is damage to agriculture, then fruit, vegetables, and bread increase in cost and families pay the price: today if I am here it is to remind national politics and those who govern this country that there is a climate crisis.” What Bonelli does not say is that the report on the “Po in drought” is an evergreen that newsrooms dish out every year around this time. Even when Avs of Bonelli and Fratoianni was in government, and it does not seem that catastrophic alarms were launched then. Even then, thanks to the same summers with little rain, fruit and vegetables rose in price, but we do not recall particular alarms, or particular intervention plans, from the governing left.
CRITICISMS AT THE TOP
EU Bonelli, however, goes even further and takes on half of Europe: “Tomorrow (today, ed.) there will be a meeting between member states to talk about what happened in Ceuta,” which with disdain for the ridiculous Bonelli defines as “an international conspiracy against Spain.” Here, continues the leader of the Green Left Alliance, “I would expect member countries to meet instead to talk about the climate crisis, because between heat waves, extreme weather events, drought, and desertification, we have reached a point of no return. The Meloni government – attacks Bonelli – is not financing the national climate adaptation plan which includes measures on the Po riverbed, to prevent the salt wedge from penetrating inside and causing damage to biodiversity and agriculture; unacceptable – continues Bonelli – is that every second in Italy 107 thousand liters of drinking water are lost due to the leaky networks of our water system. A plan to recover water is needed and a plan to provide immediate support to agriculture.”
Ceuta, Bonelli-Fratoianni delirium: “Many clues, conspiracy against Sanchez”
But who are those two: Inspector Clouseau and Lieutenant Columbo? Those two, whom a source of ours swears to have seen…
Bonelli in full short circuit from heat wave, just a few hours before this tirade, had attacked the Meloni government accused of “political scavenging for the events in Ceuta. The government uses the desperation of migrants as a smokescreen to hide its failures. Italy – he reiterates – is grappling with the climate crisis and the energy price hike, with many elderly who cannot afford to turn on an air conditioner. Meloni does not talk about any of this.” Fortunately, he reminds us, from the bed of the Po, the great river that once for the left was the fearsome emblem of Bossi’s secession and which today, instead, has become the symbol of euro-environmentalist follies. Mala tempora currunt…
