Europe warns, the left evokes the police state, a sort of public big brother. A premise: big brother already exists, it is not public but private, it is not the State but the big social networks, our bank, and the owner of any app we have downloaded on our phone and to which we have granted, even for free, to store our face to access the service provided more quickly and conveniently.
Beyond official reassurances, what happens to – so to speak – our face we do not know for sure, I doubt it remains locked in the servers; just as the even excessive use of services like Google Maps to move from one place to another is in fact a 24-hour electronic tracking that, rest assured, does not disappear into thin air. In other words: we are spied on from morning to night but it does not scare us, on the contrary, we give ourselves as much as possible. Conversely, we go into alert mode if it is the State that can know in real time where we are and it hardly reassures us that this data is theoretically in certainly safer hands and with usage protocols guaranteed by a judicial authority that alone can authorize its use.

Everyone can think what they want but certainly it cannot be denied that this technology allows a big step forward in terms of national and personal security: if normal cameras have proven decisive in solving complicated criminal cases, imagine what smart cameras could do in prevention: a terrorist wandering in an airport, a convicted robber loitering in front of a jewelry store, an escapee blending into the crowd and so on with endless cases worthy of triggering an alarm. We just have to decide how much privacy we are willing to give up in the name of greater security. Knowing, as said, that in reality we lost privacy a long time ago.
