Yes, because not everyone within the perimeter patiently drawn by Elly Schlein appreciated the criticisms aimed at the former midfielder of Milan and Juve, and not everyone embraced the policy of the “step back” due to the contract that Pirlo himself has with a Russian betting agency.

This is the case for the Five Star Movement members, always thick as thieves with Putin (following in the footsteps of their reference newspaper, Marco Travaglio’s Fatto Quotidiano), who yesterday, once they learned of Pirlo’s dismissal from the candidates for the role of Azzurri head coach, went into a rage.
Carolina Morace – who in her coaching career was head coach of the women’s national team for five years – explains: «The Pirlo affair is surreal. Where was the same outrage towards those who continued to maintain sporting, institutional or cultural relations with Israel while Gaza was being devastated? Where is the same severity – continues the Five Star MEP – towards the United States when they were involved in military interventions contested by international law? There cannot be wars that outrage and others that are ignored, and principles cannot exist only when convenient.» The only doubts raised by the former Azzurra concern the “technical” part of the affair: «After three World Cup eliminations, perhaps a technically more solid profile was needed».
On the Five Star front, the group leader in the Chamber Riccardo Ricciardi also goes hard: «We are the country where a person cannot be the national team head coach if he has a contract with a Russian company, but where a former arms lobbyist can be the Defense Minister.» And again: «We are then scandalized because the contract is linked to sports betting when this country can barely stay afloat with the revenues from Lotto, Superenalotto, Gratta e Vinci and various gambles that speculate on people’s despair».

In short, with the Five Star Movement, woe to touch Putin and Mother Russia. Defending Pirlo was also a former Five Star member, the globetrotter Alessandro Di Battista, who calls «grotesque what is happening to Pirlo» and even talks about «Russophobia» affecting «European politicians and media» and is, in “Dibba”’s opinion, «truly disgusting».
The flood of Five Star reactions, of course, greatly embarrasses the more moderate part of the Broad Field. For this reason, it is not surprising that the Democrat Filippo Sensi gave the following statement to the agencies: «On the Pirlo issue, notice: the first roosters to crow and complain about the missed appointment as head coach are, by chance, all political figures very sensitive to Russia.» A clear reference not only to the Five Star Movement with whom Sensi himself would be “forced” to ally, but also to the Vannaccians of Futuro Nazionale, who would gladly go have a couple of vodkas with Putin.
Carlo Calenda then returned to the affair. The trigger for the Action leader was the message of solidarity to Pirlo from the Russian ambassador in Italy who consoles him for being «erased in Italy by your pseudo-democratic establishment». Calenda is furious: «I would say that with this statement we can close the absurd discussion about the opportunity to take as the national team coach a gentleman paid by the Russians!».
The real last twist in the National team affair, however, comes from the PD presenting a bill that, listen up, focuses on the revival of youth sectors. And how do you revive them? With a series of technical measures, but also by simplifying the registration procedures for foreign minors residing in Italy, but not yet Italian citizens. This is because, the promoters explain: «Italian football continues to record a very low presence of second generations in youth academies and national teams, compared to other major European countries.» Someone tell Boccia and his companions that the freshly crowned world champion Spain had only two players born to parents not Spanish by birth.
