Ilaria Salis is now hammering Salvini’s housing plan. As we know, the girl is quick and when she sees the risk that the State aims to solve the problem of guaranteeing a roof over the heads of those who don’t have one, her hand runs to the revolver – verbal, fortunately – and aims for the big target. By her side are those who professionally make a fuss, led by the Tenants’ Union and the party that freed her, nominated her, and arranged for her to be paid for many potential rents per month, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra. And most of all, Angelo Bonelli, who did not shed the tears for her that Soumahoro’s candidacy caused him.
The red extremist and MEP yesterday had the bright idea of connecting via video with the Chamber of Deputies to present a pompous proposal specifically for housing. With the audacity she possesses, the well-known theorist (and practitioner, they say) of occupying other people’s homes joined the appeal to Europe on the issue. The usual blah blah seasoned with the relaunch of social housing to “directly address the issue of the housing crisis affecting Europe and particularly Italy.” Not much imagination, to be honest, but enough to fuel the usual toxic narrative.

HOW MANY GEMS
Many gems, starting with Bonelli: «The housing plan proposed by the government is an employment agency for those who haven’t found a place in state-owned companies. Squitieri, a well-known Lega member, will receive a salary of 65,000 euros». Instead, when the Cossacks arrive at Palazzo Chigi, all appointments will be free. Oh no, he forgot that.
Then, after the exhibition of MEP Benedetta Scuderi, it was Ilaria’s turn to report on her well-known constructive proposals: the housing plan is «the result of precise political choices, leaving everything in the hands of the free market». Then, the big hit of the “what are you thinking” quiz: «More and more resources allocated to rearmament instead of welfare and public housing, mostly empty due to lack of maintenance or sold off». She must have forgotten to tell her European allies who usually militate under the democratic banners. Then, disconsolate: «Meanwhile, young people live at home with their parents, with no future prospects other than to emigrate». Perhaps, she would like, avoiding this by managing the occupations of public housing.

WHAT COURAGE
Anger, only anger at hearing Ilaria Salis speak about such delicate topics: does she really think she can still address the younger generations with the examples she has offered in her political activity? You, Ilaria? Her actions cannot be dismissed as a simple “social voice” on housing: she is a militant activist with a social center curriculum (FOA Boccaccio in Monza from a young age), previous charges and convictions in Italy for resisting public officials, invading buildings, and similar things. Then the Budapest incident in February 2023: arrested with two Germans for assaults (with hammers, according to the Hungarian accusation) on right-wing militants during a counter-demonstration at the “Day of Honour.” She is indicated as part of the Hammerbande group (hammer gang), a German anti-fascist organization known for violent actions targeting “neo-Nazis.”
One of her co-defendants – poor guy, no one nominated him to get him elected… – pleaded guilty and admitted the facts; she has always denied them and saved herself with her election as an MEP and the recent confirmation of immunity. Ilaria Salis, politically, is the emblem of double standards: those who justify or minimize “left-wing” political violence (because it’s against “fascists”) then get on their high horse to talk about welfare, public housing, and social injustices as if she were a peaceful champion of the weak.
It is particularly irritating because she dares to speak of “young people without prospects” while her environment (the antagonistic far-left) has contributed for decades to a climate of conflict that solves nothing. Moreover: she pontificates against the “free market” and speculation, but her militancy is made up of occupations, clashes, and an “us versus them” logic, while ignoring how incentives, trust, and housing supply actually work.
