There is a winner, in the center-left, after the first passage of the electoral law in the Chamber: Matteo Renzi. The anti-bush amendment, presented by Paolo Emilio Russo, Forza Italia group leader in the Constitutional Affairs Committee, and approved in the Chamber, has in fact resolved the battle that was taking place among the center-left bushes, between Italia Viva-Casa Riformista and the project pursued by Alessandro Onorato to replace Renzi.

With this small but decisive change, in fact, the lists connected that not only do not reach 3%, but come second among those below 3%, do not compete in the national figure to determine who gets the majority prize. In other words: the second losers. This issue may seem obscure, but it has a disruptive effect especially on the left. It is here, in fact, that two lists were taking shape: one of Italia Viva-Casa Riformista, one of Progetto Civico, created by the city councilor Alessandro Onorato, who aimed to form the fourth centrist leg with +Europa and Nuovo Psi.

With this amendment approved, the existence of two lists becomes unlikely. Because only one could be useful to the coalition. Only the best loser could elect someone to Parliament and help the coalition reach the threshold for the prize. One detail is added: only Renzi, among the center-left bushes, is exempt from collecting signatures for candidacies, having two parliamentary groups. Therefore, yesterday, the scenario appeared clear to everyone: either Onorato, Magi, and Maraio ask to join the Casa Riformista list or they will remain out (unless the PD gives them hospitality). Only that Onorato’s fate does not concern only the councilor. Those who, starting with Giuseppe Conte, hoped to oust Renzi by replacing him with a centrist list, but purified from the cumbersome presence of the former premier (who promised votes to Schlein in the primaries), had bet on him. Failed project.

And now Renzi finds himself, in fact, to be the only one able to field a centrist list in the broad field. A position of strength that will allow him, from now on, to call the shots. And he has already started: “We respect the desire for protagonism that some friends are expressing these hours. We will not be the ones to prevent those who say they have great support among the people from measuring themselves on the ballot.” What will Ruffini do? +Europa is also in difficulty, having bet on Onorato, so much so that Riccardo Magi asked “the whole coalition” to “take charge of this step” in the Senate. No one has answered him so far.
